The Midwives Model of Care is based upon the principles of Evidence-Based Practice and Informed Choice. Mothers and midwives are partners in promoting a healthy outcome for mother and baby. Together we carefully monitor the progress of pregnancy and labor, and engage in appropriate education regarding your options. This “shared decision-making” allows you to make choices that make the most sense for you and your baby.
Evidence-Based Practice refers to a thoughtful integration of the best available evidence, coupled with clinical experience. As such it enables midwives and their clients to address healthcare questions with an evaluative and qualitative approach. Evidence-based decisions flow from a process that includes the assessment of current and past research, clinical guidelines, and other information resources in order to determine the best course of care.
Informed Choice refers to the rights of healthcare consumers to be fully informed about testing or treatment options so that they can then make an educated “choice” among those options.
Hua Moon offers a wide variety of screenings and treatments that are consistent with the standard medical maternity model of care. Most tests or procedures that are available carry with them likelihoods for further testing, treatment, or interventions that we encourage you to consider prior to making your decisions. Risks and benefits usually exist for the choice to test or treat a condition, as well as the choice to decline testing or treatment. Our goal is to provide you with all the information you need to make decisions that acknowledge both evidence-based care and your individualized needs.
