Birth Control FAQ
What types of birth control are available?
There are many methods of birth control to choose from. From hormonal options to natural/cycle monitoring and long-acting contraception here are the options we can discuss with you.
- Hormonal contraception: includes birth control pills, patches, vaginal rings or shots
- Non-hormonal contraception: includes condoms (both male and female), diaphragm and “natural” family planning or “rhythm” methods.
- Long-acting reversible
contraception:includes IUDs and implants, which can last for three to 10 years, depending on the method.
- Emergency contraception: birth control, which can be used up to 120 hours after unprotected sex to prevent a pregnancy. Also known by brand names Plan B and Paraguard IUD, emergency contraception is not intended to be used in place of regular birth control.
